Poets of Palmer Park

Listen up while the Poets of Palmer Park hit the mic and express their thoughts on community violence, family issues, and even ice cream. This talented group of young people were part of the Chicago Park District’s summer youth program where they completed a workshop at the Congo Square Theater.

The poems are original works of art which reflect the unique experiences, emotions, and dreams of youth coming of age in Chicago. The students also share the stage with Marionette puppets to enact their version of a Langston Hughes poem.

Led by the Congo Square Theater’s Daniel Bryant, the students designed the colorful backdrop and helped operate studio gear at CAN TV.

The Poets of Palmer Park will air on Sunday, September 20 at 9:00 a.m. on CAN TV21, Tuesday, September 22 at 12:00 p.m. on CAN TV21 and Thursday, September 24 at 11:30 a.m. on CAN TV19.
