Get Involved with CAN TV

Do you have a story to tell? As a CAN TV Community Producer, you can get access to the training and equipment you need to tell it to people throughout the city.

STEP ONE: ORIENTATION

Everyone starts here. Best part? It only takes an hour and doesn't cost you a thing.


Bring a photo ID with proof of city of Chicago street address, or a letter on organizational letterhead authorizing you to represent a nonprofit group based in the city of Chicago.

Held at CAN TV's offices- 322 S. Green St.

Wednesday April 23 5:45 p.m.
Saturday May 10 11 a.m.

*There is no admittance once the session starts- please be on time.

CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS

Examinations are available to individuals who have video production experience and desire to become certified CAN TV Community Producers without taking training at CAN TV. Anyone wishing to take a certification exam must first attend an orientation session. Each two-hour exam session costs $50.

STEP TWO: PREREQUISITE TRAINING

PRE-PRODUCTION WORKSHOP
Every great story or program starts with an even better plan. Develop it while learning about the most effective video production method for you. 4-hour weeknight or weekend session.
CLASS SIZE = 6
CLASS FEE = $25 (deductible toward one production course which you select from the list below.)

 

STEP THREE: CHOOSE YOUR TRAINING

STUDIO PRODUCTION
Want your own studio television show? Get trained
to use studio cameras, audio board, light board, switcher, and more. Four weekend sessions/28 hours of total training.
CLASS SIZE = 8
CLASS FEE = $200

 

FIELD PRODUCTION
Taking your story to the streets? Learn what it takes to
use digital video cameras, microphones and lights. Two weekend or weeknight sessions/four hours each week

CLASS SIZE = 6
CLASS FEE = $75

 

EDITING
Make your story or program come alive. Receive training to use
professional editing software to edit pre-recorded footage into a finished piece. Three weekend or weeknight sessions/four hours each week.
CLASS SIZE = 4
CLASS FEE = $200

 

CAN TV also offers special group training based on need. And once
you are trained and become a certified community producer, we don't
forget about you. We offer workshops and free practice sessions
to help improve your new television production skills.
